Josh and Barbara Tenpenny

by City, Friends and Neighbors

Merchants on First Avenue NW
planned a retirement block party this evening at 6 pm for Josh
and Barbara Tenpenny who have recently closed their United
Diamond Brokers store after 38 successful years in business.
What Josh and Barbara didn't know
was the surprise honor bestowed on them by Mayor Terry
Harrell, The City Council of Winchester, members of the Tenpenny
family and over 40 friends and neighbors.

The proclamation reads:
Proclamation
By The Mayor
WHEREAS, the
Mayor and City Council of Winchester,
Tennessee, wish to acknowledge Josh &
Barbara Tenpenny for their 38 years as
business owners and for their service to our
community; and
WHEREAS, in 1971 Josh & Barbara Tenpenny and
Austin Jennings bought Norton's Jewelry
Store located on the square in downtown
Winchester and began operation under the
name Jennings Jewelers. In 1991, Josh &
Barbara changed the store's name to United
Diamond Brokers; and
WHEREAS, Josh Tenpenny has served his
country in the United States Air Force,
including a tour of duty in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, Josh has also been very involved in
the community. Over the years he has served
as President of the Downtown Merchants
Association, the Tennessee Retail Jewelers,
the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, and
the Winchester Rotary Club. He has been a
Board member of the Methodist Hospital and
was named 1984 Jaycee Man of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Josh & Barbara are successful
business people, devoted to their family,
and are active members of the Winchester
Church of Christ, where Josh has served as
Elder for the past twenty years; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council would
also like to acknowledge the support Barbara
has provided her husband and children. She
has served alongside her husband in business
and been a devoted wife and mother, aiding
in the success of their business and family;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terry Harrell, Mayor of
the City of Winchester, Tennessee, do hereby
call for and proclaim that the proper
recognition be bestowed to Josh & Barbara
Tenpenny for the great asset they have been
to the City of Winchester and to Franklin
County. We wish them and their family well
as they retire and start a new phase in
their life.
