Cindy Orr, co-owner of Orr Decor & More on the Winchester Square, demonstrates how well her homemade chalk paint works on a children’s table she refinished.

The Winchester Downtown Group is striving to promote business opportunities on the city’s Square to ultimately bolster Franklin County’s economy.

And one such business that has begun to accomplish that goal is Orr Decor & More, located at 100 1st Ave S.E.

Residents in the immediate area have come to notice a cutesy stick figure insignia outside Orr Decor’s business and on its delivery truck. They have grown to automatically recognize it to be a likeness of owners Cindy and Hugh Orr.

Orr Decor & More is a family owned and operated business open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cindy Orr says her and her husband’s shop offers something for everyone.

“We pride ourselves in knowing a mother, grandmother and daughter can come in and all of them find something they love,” she said.

Dealing mostly in used furniture, antiques, home decor and quality knickknacks, Cindy also refurbishes older torn furniture pieces and turns them into beautiful remodeled residential products.

Open on the square since July 2014, Cindy and Hugh have put their own special touch on the old Hammer’s building with remodeled floors, unique pieces of furniture and beautiful artistic designs throughout the building. “It was a labor of love,” Cindy said. She and Hugh travel to estate sales to hand pick furniture to re-upholster, refinish, repair, paint or distress.
